Ukdun Kelieli Vatli Dal (Steamed Vatli Dal)
Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 8 to 10 green chillies
- 5 to 6 garlic cloves
- ½ tablespoon salt
- ½ tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ tablespoon sugar
- ¼ cup grated coconut
- ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves
- ¼ cup oil
- ¼ cup milk
- Mustard seeds
- Asafoetida (hing)
- Turmeric powder
Methods
- Wash the chana dal and soak it for 4 hours.
- Drain the water completely.
- Grind the dal along with green chillies and salt to a coarse paste in a mixer.
- Add lemon juice, sugar, milk, grated coconut, and coriander leaves to the mixture.
- Prepare a tempering with oil, mustard seeds, and asafoetida.
- Grease a vessel with oil and pour the mixture into it.
- Place the vessel inside a cooker. Allow it to steam until two whistles.
- When cool, cut into pieces before serving.
